A ball is rolling on a smooth surface with a speed of 1m/s. There are five checkered
flags placed 2 m apart.
1. Along which flag would the ball be after 2 seconds?
2. How much time would have elapsed when the ball reaches Flag 3?
3. What is the distance covered in 8 seconds?
4. Plot a distance time graph for the above situation.
Opening the car door
How many times do you push or pull something everyday? Pushes and pulls
are forces. Look at the pictures. The man is pulling the door of the car to
open it. The boy is kicking the football. This ball is stopped by the
goalkeeper. In pulling the door and in kicking or stopping the football force
Kicking the football is used. Force is used to push and pull anything. We have to apply force on
the pedals of a bicycle to make it move, and also have to apply force on the
brakes to stop it.
You may push the door with great force. If the door still does not open,
you may call your brother or father or mother to help you. All of you
apply ‘force’ to push the door open. Thus, you will have to push or pull
some of the items, using whatever force is necessary.
