They are divided into three parts :                     States of the Coastal Plains

                  •  The Northern Plains are spread over a large area from Punjab to Assam.

                  •  These plains are divided into three parts; the Sutlej Basin, the Ganga Basin and

                      the Brahmaputra Basin.
                  •  These plains cover mainly the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar,
                      West Bengal, Assam and the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Farming is the

                      main occupation of the people.

                  •  The Western coastal plains and the Eastern coastal plains are found along the
                      western and eastern coasts of India respectively.

                  •  The two coastal plains cover some parts of the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra,
                      Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.
