8. Subtraction

Observe and understand :

There are 9 bu erflies in a cage.

A child came and opened half of the door of

the cage. Four of the bu erflies flew away.

Now there are five bu erflies in

the cage.

It shows :

Out of nine, flew away four, there remain five.

Thus, “nine minus four is equal to five”.

When we subtract four from nine, we get five.

“9 minus 4 is equal to 5”.

The symbol of subtrac on is ‘–’ and it is read as ‘minus’.
