Eid
Eid falls after the holy month of fasting called
Ramadan. On this day, people wear new
clothes and wish ‘Eid Mubarak ’ to each other.
People gather in open areas to offer ‘namaz ’. A
sweet dish called ‘sewain ’ is prepared.
Children get eidi from their elders.
Fact Quest
Onam is the colourful harvest fes val of Kerala. People decorate their
houses. A clay figure decorated with flowers is made in courtyards. The
decora on is called Athapookalam . Special boats called snake boats take
part in boat races. Snake boats are decorated with flags and silk umbrellas.
National Festivals
We celebrate three national festivals in India– Independence Day,
Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti.
Independence Day
Independence Day is celebrated on 15th
August every year. In 1947, India got freedom
from British rule on this day. We hoist the
National Flag and sing the National Anthem on
Independence day.
Republic Day
Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January
every year. India became a republic on this
day in 1950.
Gandhi Jayanti

as the ‘Father of the Na on’. every year. It is the birthday of Mahatma
