There are many resources hidden inside the Earth. They are very
useful to us. Such underground wealth is called minerals. They are

formed by natural processes without human interference. They can
be identified on the basis of their physical properties such as colour,
density, hardness and chemical behaviour.

Nature has endowed our country with a variety of minerals. Some

minerals are also taken out of the seabed. Minerals are often found
mixed with rocks. A rock that contains a large
quantity of mineral is called an ore. Deep holes

have to be dug to take out these minerals. These
pits are called mines . Digging out mineral ores

from the earth is called mining . Minerals are
very useful for human beings.
