A dataset is a collection of related but distinct pieces of data that can be accessed individually or in
combination. A dataset is generally maintained in the form of rows and columns. Consider any one of
the mentioned sources of data and create your own small dataset.

WHY DATA SCIENCE?
Before discussing the concept of data science, let us try to understand the answers of the
following questions:
• Do you know how do the online shopping websites arrange products on a web page?

• How do they send offers based on your requirements and choices?
• How do they bundle gifts?
• How do they select products for specific occasions, like Diwali, Christmas, etc.?

• How do the travelling agencies send travelling offers at the time of vacation?
• How does Gmail give you suggestions, when you type an email?
It is a field of computer science that uses huge amounts of complicated data, sometimes known as
big data, to provide useful information. In all the aforementioned scenarios, the historical data is
studied through data science software, and with the help of that software analysis, the choices of
the users, their buying patterns, market requirements, and other factors are recognised.

WHAT IS THE DATA SCIENCE?
Data science is an intelligent decision-making process with the help of historical data. It helps
with prediction of the future and optimises the resources.

In other words, you can define data science as a discipline, which incorporates mathematical
methods for extracting useful information from a large amount of data. The insights that data
science generates help organisations increase operational efficiency, uncover new business
opportunities, and improve marketing and sales efforts.
The same thing is done in data science by observing historical data with the help of Mathematics

and Science, and making predictions for the future. The information gained through data science
helps in many domains in decision making and taking better steps. The main purpose of data
science is to help business analysts, healthcare domain workers, society, economists, and others
in making better decisions.

The various components of data science are described as follows:
• Data Availability: The first and most important component is the availability of relevant
data. If the relevant data is not available, you cannot generate any predictions.
