Getting Started

m A pictorial representation of classes representing items and their common properties is called a
Venn diagram.

m It usually consists of two or more circles: each representing elements of a class.

m The common properties of different classes are represented by some common regions shared
among the circles.

Example 1. Which of the following venn diagrams best represents the relationship amongst
“Science, Physics, Chemistry”?

Solution (c). Physics and chemistry are two different categories which belong to science.

Thus, option (c) is correct.

Example 2. Study the diagram carefully and tell the number of people who can speak only one
language.
