                                                       Kinds of Food

            There are three main kinds of food.


            1.     Energy-giving food                                2.      Body-building food

            3.     Protective food

            Energy-giving food :         Carbohydrates and fats give us energy to work and play.

            These are called energy-giving food. Potatoes, butter, rice, wheat and sugar are

            all energy-giving food.

            Body-building food :          They help our body to grow. They build our muscles and

            bones. Some such foods are pulses (dal), meat, eggs and fish. Milk, cheese, curd

            and paneer are also body-building foods.

            Protective food :       Fruits and vegetables protect us from diseases. They help us

            grow  strong  and  healthy.  Vegetables  can  be  leafy  vegetables  like  spinach,
            lettuce, cabbage and non-leafy vegetables like carrot, potato and radish.
