Nature has given us many resources but we cannot use most of them
unless they are processed. Industries are centres where products are

manufactured from raw materials after processing them. For
example, sugar is made from sugarcane. Minerals like iron, bauxite
and limestone are used as raw materials in industries that produce

steel, aluminium, fertiliser, paper, cement, and many more.

Factors Responsible for the Growth of Industries

The factors responsible for the growth of industries are :

1. Raw Materials : Raw materials are the most important factors for
the growth of any industry. The raw materials for industries may

be obtained from :

Plants – such as sugarcane for sugar, wood for furniture, etc.
Animals – milk for butter or cheese, wool from the hair of sheep.

Minerals Extracted from the Earth – such as iron ore for steel,

bauxite for aluminium, etc.
