Something to Do

Observe and name two things that you can see in the sky at the given times :

In the morning In the evening At night

                                              The Sun Gives Directions

If you stand facing the rising Sun with your hands stretched, you are facing the

East. Behind you is the West. Your left hand points to the North. Your right hand

points to the South. North, South, East, West are called the four directions.

                                                 Formation of Shadow

Shadows always fall on the opposite side of the source

of light. A shadow is formed by an object as it stops path

of the sun light. A shadow is formed behind the object.
A shadow is formed when anything comes in the way of

light. As a result, a portion of darkness is seen.

At night, shadows are formed by moonlight, electric tubes, bulbs and lamps.

                                         Shadows Change their Direction

Shadows are long in the mornings
            and evenings. Shortest shadow is

at the noon time when the Sun is

            right above our head.

Make a pencil stand at the left side of a burning

candle. We see that the shadow falls on the left side.

When we shift the candle to the left side of the pencil,
the shadow of the pencil falls on the right side.

                              Do you Know?

A day and a night together is of 24 hours.
