National Festivals


            Festivals  that  are  celebrated  by  all

            Indians  are  called  national  festivals.
            We celebrate three national festivals

            in India.

            Republic  Day  is  celebrated  on  26th

            January every year. A grand parade is

            held  in  New  Delhi.  The  President  of

            India takes the salute at the parade.
            The armed forces, police, children and

            folk artists from different states also

            take part in the parade. People from

            all over the country come to watch this
            parade.


            We celebrate 15th August as Independence Day. On this day, the Prime Minister
            of  India  hoists  the  national  flag  at  the  Red  Fort  in  New  Delhi.  In  schools,

            Independence Day is celebrated with the hoisting of the flag by the Principal.

            Children sing the National Anthem and other patriotic songs.

            The birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, “The Father of the Nation', is celebrated as

            Gandhi Jayanti every year. It is celebrated on 2nd October. The main function is

            held at his samadhi called Rajghat in New Delhi. Prayer meetings are held all over
            the nation.
