2. A number system has made the representation of large values easy. It is made up of 16
symbols 0 to 9, and A to F. Which number system we are talking about?

                   Practical Session #Critical Thinking

                   1. Surf the internet to find out the uses of the various number systems in different types of
                         scenarios. Discuss with your teacher.
                   2. Visit your computer lab and perform the following actions:

                         • Find out the size of RAM of your computer and convert this decimal number into
                            binary number system.
                         • Open any folder which contains Word, PowerPoint or image file and note down their
sizes. Now convert them into binary number system.

Tabulate 10 random numbers in decimal number system and then convert them into
                   • Binary Number (Base 2 number)
                   • Octal Number (Base 8 number)
                   • Hexa decimal number (Base 16 number)
Inspect that in any case the result could be same or not.

Your friend was on leave due to medical emergency when number system was taught in class
and she is stuck up to understand this new topic. What will you do?

                   Teacher’s Corner
                   • Talk to the students about the importance of number systems and their uses in computers.
                   • Do a detailed walk-through of the decimal and binary number systems and their different
operations in a mathematically rigorous manner.
                   • Give a brief on octal and hexadecimal number systems.
