¨ Facts related to any object in consideration are collectively known as data.
¨ Database is a collection of inter-related data which helps in efficient retrieval (taking out
information), insertion and deletion of data from the database and organises the data in the
form of tables, views, reports, etc.
¨ The software used to manage a database is called a Database Management System (DBMS).
¨ Some of the examples of RDBMS are – MS Access, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
¨ Microsoft Access is the most popular RDBMS that comes as a part of the Microsoft Office
Suite.
¨ MS Access is used to organise and manipulate the data. It organises data in the form of tables.
¨ Databases in MS Access are composed of four main objects which allow you to enter, store,
analyse and compile the data.
¨ The main objects that can be created in Access are — Tables, Queries, Forms and Reports.
¨ Tables are the building blocks of a database. They store the complete data in a structured
manner, i.e., in the form of rows and columns.
¨ Queries let you find and work on the data from one or multiple tables, according to the
specified conditions.
¨ Forms provide a user interface that lets the user enter and change data in the tables.
