All the biotic components – plants, animals, and microorganisms –
together form a community. These organisms depend on and interact with

                                     one another to survive.

You may have noticed colourful flowers blooming around you. Have you
Science ever observed their parts closely?

                                     A flower has :
                           Testimony
If a pond suddenly dries • A stalk
up bio c and abio c
components are affected. • Sepals (green, leaf-like structures)
                                     • Petals (often brightly coloured)
There are two main reproductive parts:

                                        — Stamens (male)
                                                                                               Pollination
                                        — Carpels (female)
The stamens produce yellow, powdery pollen grains. These grains are

carried from one flower to another by wind, water, insects, bats, or birds.
This process is called pollination , and it helps plant to produce fruits and
                                     seeds.

DOES EVERY ORGANISM IN A COMMUNITY MATTER?
Researchers studied two ponds to see how fish might affect seed

                                     production in nearby plants.

                                                      Pond A Pond B
Pond A with fish and Pond B without fish

                                     • Pond A had fish and was surrounded by many flowering plants.

                                     • On the other hand, Pond B had no fish and had fewer flowering plants.
