Flashback Time
¨ Formulas are the user-defined instructions to perform calculations; whereas, functions are the
pre-defined or inbuilt formulas that are there in Excel, by default.
¨ Formulas are used to perform calculations, such as addition, subtraction, division, and
multiplication. A formula establishes a relationship between two or more cells.
¨ A formula must begin with an equals to (=) symbol, followed by cell references and operators.
¨ While using a function or formula, references to a cell or cell ranges are usually based on the
position relative to the cell. When you copy the formula to the other cells, the reference cell
automatically gets changed.
¨ Absolute reference is used when you do not want to change the address of the cell while
copying the formula to the other cell.
